AUTUMN TERM 2008 The new term started on Thursday 4th September and we welcomed new students and staff to the school. Mrs. S. Richman is the new Year 9 and 10 Form Tutor and a Design and Technology specialist teacher; Mr. A. Alexandrov joins us to teach ICT to the Senior School; Mrs. L. Richards will be the Year 4 class teacher and teach Music throughout the school; Mrs. B. Tyagi will be the Years 1 and 2 form teacher and teach some Science, PSHE and Religious Education to the older students. Monday 22nd September saw the start of our first ever Science Week and began with a ‘Mad Science’ Assembly which was attended by Years 7 and 8 as well as the lower school. The Senior Department then had a chance to impress the Junior School with a series of demonstrations in the science lab.
The PTA organised a Barbeque on Saturday 27th September, coinciding with our Open Morning for prospective pupils and a reunion of our first ever Year 6 leavers (2003). This was a chance for families new to the school to socialise with existing families and for prospective parents to find out more about the school in an informal setting. Our 'Class of 2003' have just finished their GCSEs, so we enjoyed seeing how they have changed in the past 5 years and finding out what they are up to now. We were pleased that ten of the class managed to attend despite their busy schedules. The PTA held their AGM on Monday 29th September with a new committee being elected for the coming year. The school had another successful Open Morning on Thursday 2nd October, giving prospective families a chance to see the school during a working day. The school celebrated Harvest Festival in neighbouring St. John's Church on Monday 6th October. Parents were able to join staff and pupils to hear traditional harvest time hymns, songs and readings. Donations of non-perishable groceries were sent to the Salvation Army for distribution. On Friday 5th December Years 7-10 visited the Houses of Parliament followed by their Christmas lunch in London. The PTA organised a Christmas Fair on Sunday 7th December; this is always a ighlight of the year for our younger pupils. The Seniors ran their own stall and raised about £150 for the PTA. The Senior boys organised and trained the Junior School U11 Football team for a football match against Warlingham Park School, which Wickham Court won 3:0! The Senior School produced a revue called 'Wickham's got Talent' for the benefit of parents, staff and the Junior School on the afternoon of Thursday 18th December. They did all the planning and organisation themselves and the show was well received by the audience who made donations to the school charity to show their appreciation.
The term finished on Friday 19th December with a Carol Service in St. John's Church, West Wickham. The students were joined by friends and family for the service and for coffee and mince pies at the school afterwards.
SPRING TERM 2009 The Spring Term started on January 8th and the students were delighted to find that the long-awaited 'Trim Trail' had been installed in the grounds over the holiday. On Thursday 29th January Years 7-10 visited the Natural History Museum in London. The students visited different zones to help with research for their project work and took park in an 'Investigate' workshop.
There was also an outing to the National Gallery in London on Tuesday 10th February at which the students were introduced to the works of Piero Della Francesca, Rembradt and Paul Delaroche. The students made sketches and explored many other paintings after the lecture, including Turner's 'The Fighting Temeraire' and Van Gogh's 'Sunflowers'. There were Open Mornings for prospective parents and pupils on Tuesday 3rd and Tuesday 10th of March. We ha record numbers of visitors and the students were happy to skip lessons to show people around the school. March 13th was Comic Relief Day and students were allowed to come to school in non-uniform clothes, ideally wearing something red. Red noses were for sale in school and the Seniors ran a cake sale for the junior school. All money raised went to Comic Relief. A Parent's Evening is scheduled for Wednesday 26th March so that parents can discuss the students progress with their form and specialist teachers. The Easter Service at St.John's Church will be followed by refreshments back at school for parents and school will close for the Easter holidays at noon on Wednesday April 1st.
